THE saints at play 15 & 16 th May

Saturday night saw a depleted Midget team travel to Newcastle & despite the terrific efforts, of so few, against so many, 3 of us v 5 of them at one stage  WITHOUT CONCEDING  A GOAL, well done, we still went down 1/3.

More attention to training & at training & some team spirit would help this team a long way. Very poor sportsmanship from those not bothering to travel to Newcastle. Lucky I am not coaching, or else the Midgets not making the Newcastle game, or missing training sessions, would not be playing at home on Sunday either.  Go to training & games especially injured or not, playing or not, support your team mates  & show some team spirit, or be prepared to warm the bench

Sunday 15th May starts early with a Bantam game at 0730 at Canterbury.

Bantams battle a tight one against  The Eagles with no Peewee players to help, & against a  goalie saving everything we threw at him. End of first period & we are behind on the scoreboard 0/1 but not from lack of effort. Second period & we claw our way back with a goal from our still injured  Captain Martin. End of second period & the scores are locked at 1/1.

Early Into the third & Casey puts us in front with one of his trademark goals. Defence  again keeping us in the game, forwards battling on staying in their zone, but with  no  further luck but 2 was all we needed once we held them out. 2 period shut out, nice one Edgo.

Word from the coach,  was that if we can win in an untidy & generally poor performance, game, imagine what we can do, when we put in a good one.

Peewees at home v The Barbarians

Peewees at full strength taking it to them from the start.Defence & a first period shut out ( well done Leila ) keeps us well in front. Combinations left right & center giving us a 3 goal lead at the end of the first. Some great team work  from Emma, Bayley,  Ethan & Jordan, getting the puck  to our 2 goal scoring dynamos.

Second period & The Barbarians decide its their turn, the second period was theirs with them levelling the score at 3 a piece.

We were quite content to have this game finish there, dividing it into 2 halves , but the refs & the opposition, wanted a third. Unfortunately, the third period, was there's as well, with another 3 goals & despite constant attacks from  too many of our players trying to do it alone ( some passing instead of shots that werent going anywhere would have been good ) & probably made the difference, but individual  goal line fever from too many of our players saw us finish the game in second place.

Women at home Sunday morning V  The Bears

Girls decided to play some hockey for a while, & while they did, they showed some good form & scored some points, hassling the goalie, a weak moment in concentration saw The Bears score & then the rot started from there as the cracks in defence showed.

Some cheap hits by the opposition & short tempers from our girls, saw some interesting moments, with one of our girls being sent off after a scuffle, not to be seen again. With some continued effort &  team work the Women will be a threat in this competition, a little bit of luck would help as well, as time & time again , things just didn’t go their way. If the girls continue their momentum that they began with, they can be competition   threats to the favourites in no time. Keep putting the effort in ladies, it will come

Good to see the Ice Dogs play the warm up game for our  Midgets v Blacktown Sunday night.

The game started well with some big hits & early shots. We were well in the game for all 3 periods. A couple of typical Blacktown cheap shots, didn’t deter our boys & they stayed focus & on track. Unfortunately they had more shots on, than us, 30 to 9  ( well done Jake ) & the averages went against us. Teamwork all game, was better than I had seen  from our Midgets previously. The constant battle for possession & our control of the puck was great, unfortunately we couldn’t convert this effort to shots & goals. Again The Midgets looked like world beaters with some line ups & their attitude seemed good & strong. Patience boys, both Newcastle & Blacktown, are shaking their heads glad that game is over & not looking forward to a rematch v The SAINTS
