The time and date for our AGM, has been announced, 6pm Sunday 20th MARCH 2011.
I have been on the committee a few years now, the last two, steering the ship, as it were. While it has not all, been smooth sailing, and I hear some of you saying not always in the right direction, I would like to think that I got it right more than I got it wrong, and that again, with the help of our current committee, I would like to stay for another couple of years.
So if one of our members will nominate me, and another second that nomination, I would be glad to restand.
I am not naïve enough to think that I am the only person suited for the job, nor will I probably be the only person running for this position, but I at least have a plan for our club, for the future, that I would like to see all our members young & old, enjoy.
Whats in it for me you may well ask ?
Obviously the money for one.
2010 saw us take some giant steps forward, with the foundation being laid for the promise of better things to come.
I was at the front of a new committee, which I saw take on seemingly unsurmountable challenges, every member, did their job, my job, & 8 other jobs, all with a minimum of fuss, not once, did I ask for help & not have many hands make light work.
Those of you, who think you know some members of the committee, please get to know what they really do. I could not possibly assign a single job description to any of them.
Tyrone Sables, our Vice President, has more to do with the juniors than the seniors but isn’t that the future ?
There is nothing, that happens in our Junior club, without him, instigating it, or being a part of it, and he is willing to do the same, to help the seniors & has in fact already started helping out there. As Vice President he does more than his fair share even making me look good ( which aint easy ) IHNSW wanted to steal him from us, so they could have him as their, Development Officer, remember the Atoms Tournament at our home ice? His idea, they want him, don’t know about Annette, but I ain’t letting him go in a hurry.
Joe Mayer, our Treasurer, ( love him or hate him ) Joe keeps us in the league. IHNSW and the Catholic Club would have total control of our ice & we would have nowhere near as much ice time, if it were not for Joe. As for the Treasury, he has taken that on & has it mastered, liasing with IHNSW and the Mother Club .
Joe, along with Tyrone, another ideas man, the Hoodie, the shell pants, the new jersey design, our pucks the list goes on.
Joe is our rep to IHNSW , The Senior Leagues & The IHNSW Officials. If not for Joe, we would have had to forfeit games in just about every league last year, seniors, juniors & womens included. Joe has devoted way more time and effort than any three other people, to the efficient running of our club, Joe may not win too many popularity contests, but he is helping out with many things effectively within & for our club. Love him or hate him, this club our club, would not be anywhere near as strong or organised, if not for him, and I would like to say, that we need his return for us to thrive in the 21st century of hockey.
Tanya Bright our Secretary, whats in it for her, she has no kids playing here? Like our resident nice guy & Coaching Director Mick Lynch, Tanya gives up way too much of her own time for the love of Hockey , Tanya’s boys played for us, for a while & we hope will return in some capacity, ( Matt is ready and willing if goalies are interested ) but at present Tanya is battling on with no family or herself playing, purely just for the love of the sport.
Great Ideas people, I am surrounded by them,Tanya suggested the year book & then just about finished it on her own, 12 months of work done in less than 3. As Secretary, she does an exemplary job, with every other job given to her or taken on by her ,helping our club on our committee, she is just about superwoman.
Mick Lynch, our Super Coaching Director, our helping hand with just about every team & every facet of our club, Mick is the backbone of our club with his heart in the right place at all times as well.
These people I feel, not only need to stay, it is imperative, for the strong & united future of our club, please join them & myself on our committee. I cannot offer you just one position, none of these people take just one, the name is a title only, but their jobs for you, are many, too many to name, please help them, help yourselves & your children in our future.
I tell you proudly, that I am in it for my children, I am a proud dad & will help & support them to enjoy their beloved sport, in any way I can. If that means dragging your kids along for the ride, to see our club prosper at the top, then please join them, and support me, to help our club along the way .
I have played just about every contact sport , both here at home & overseas, unfortunately never hockey, but never have I been prouder, than this year, when increasing numbers, of not only my sons, but SAINTS players in general, have been selected for representative honours.
Our sport, of which I too, cherish, is increasing slowly, in this country, it still has a long way to go & I hope, to be involved with it, for a long time to come.
Last year, I missed the puck a few times & was slow to control it, or pass it on & push it towards the net for a goal.
I promise to do a better job in the next two years if you will have me in any way shape or form.
I would be proud to stand again as President of our mighty club .
