What a day of Hockey
Peewees did us proud by going through undefeated only to have the wheels fall off their winning form in The Grand Final
Peewees can be proud of their efforts & achievements, while still a new team, having only played, less than a handful of games together they still have some work to do on the occassional formation & set play as well as some defence combinations. The Heaton Cup is a great opportunity to try out some new combinations & player positional placements & Coach Tony did just this.
All the groundwork has been laid for year of fun couped with many wins ahead.
At the end of the day the Peewees just got a little tired as they had been up & playing since about dawn. Even the eventual winners Canterbury didnt start their first game till after ours( home ice advantage I guess )
Play of the day is difficult as there were so many great moments of junior hockey to mention but here are a few
Semi Final game & we are short handed & to a few dads in the stands it looks as though our D are in the wrong position ( little did we know )
Ellesse wins the face off, passes it back to Shak, who accepts it with his stick , flicks it off the inside edge of his skate & passes it to Dylan who races up the wing beating three players & has a shot on that under normal circumstances would have beeen a goal but as their goalie butterflys, his left hand just , manages to deflect it off.
Another moment which did result in a goal, was when Corey flicks it to Mo, who passes it to Christiarn in the slot, who skillfully  gets her blade on the ice at the right angle to beat the goaly.
First  game against the Flyers & they come charging at Sara who casually stops 3 shots then pushes two of their players out of the crease.
Bayley, Mark & Nick, combine, to give Nolan, one of the sweetest goals ever, going from one end of the ice to the other, with some blade to blade, passes, that the Blackhawks, would be proud of.
The action continued all through the morning & early afternoon but they couldnt keep their winning form up, finishing second overall.
A fine effort Peewees, one which showed all the spectators that you have the right stuff to make us ALL VERY PROUD AND YOU DID JUST THAT THANKYOU TO ALL THE TEAM  especially TONY,PATRICK and LINDA
